Campus Events Commission

Since 1965 Campus Events Commission (CEC) has been one of the biggest purveyors of campus entertainment. Since its inception, it has acquired a reputation for its edgy style of advertising and controversial events.  CEC has been responsible for hosting the Jack Benny and Spencer Tracy Award shows, and for holding the renowned student film festival “Shorttakes.”

Still pushing the envelope today, CEC has remained a student-funded organization dedicated to introducing freshest fare in film, music, and speakers into the bloodstream of the UCLA community.  From hosting weekly $2 movies to unabashedly showcasing crowd-drawing free sneak movies, CEC has become the students’ premiere source for new cinema. CEC also brings the best in music programming to students by providing free quarterly concerts in Westwood Plaza and Kerckhoff Grand Salon, as well as getting bands and artists to perform at Bruin Bash.

In addition to providing new film and music, it is also responsible for coordinating speeches from an eclectic variety of dignitaries. In the past, CEC has been responsible for obtaining speakers that range from Martin Luther King Jr. to Morgan Freeman and Michael Moore. Be it media seen or heard, Campus Events Commission is constantly in search of that which is as evocative and diverse as its audience.

General Marketing Staff

General marketing staff is the promotional hand of Campus Events Commission, in charge of promoting and informing students of any and all CEC programs. Acting much like a big bad PR and marketing machine, it is responsible for press releases as well as inter-organization and media relations. General marketing staff also works to foster the CEC image and name as a chic and vibrant source of college entertainment.

Online Marketing Staff

Online marketing staff is in charge of all things web-related. Not only do they design the central website, but they also send out weekly newsletters, update the website and the Facebook fanpage with new events, and tweet all day long. If you send an e-mail to them, expect a response within minutes because they’re just that good/never AFK.

Print Marketing Staff

The Print Marketing staff works with General Marketing staff to get the word out about events. They design the quarterly film calendars, the quirky, funny ads found every week around campus, and all of the paper flyers. Like capitalism, without advertising Campus Events would crumble.

Concerts Staff

Concerts staff books bands and artists to perform at Bruin/Westwood Plaza and Kerckhoff Grand Salon. Concerts in Bruin Plaza usually take place at noon, but if you’ve got class you can always catch the Kerckhoff Grand Salon concerts in the evening. Past artists who have graced our stage include Girl Talk, Grizzly Bear, and Bloc Party. In order to bring you such worthy talent, the staff must listen to countless demos and negotiate with managers and agents, so show some appreciation and they’ll do the rest!

Films Staff

CEC has one of the largest screening programs in the country. The films staff organizes weekly $2 films open to the public and our free sneaks bring UCLA students a movie every Tuesday before it hits theatres! In the past we’ve had: Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Slumdog Millionaire, 500 Days of Summer, and Juno. We have occasional guests and speakers for the films such as Alan Rickman, Darren Lynn Bousman and Wes Anderson. Last, but not least, free swag is always included–posters, hats, shirts, you name it–as giveaways and prizes for our loyal film buffs.
