An apocalyptic event ruins the world, leaving behind a beautifully bleak landscape.  Amidst the ruins is a father (Viggo Mortensen) and his son, who must travel down the eastern coast of a ravaged America to the warmer south, where unknown dangers may still await them.  With nothing but a pistol, a rusting shopping cart, and the clothes on their backs, they must fend off the lawless cannibalistic bands that stalk the roads. The Road, directed by John Hillcoat and also starring Charlize Theron, is based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Cormac McCarthy, author of No Country for Old Men.
